Putaruru College 2010
Te Ruru book - remember these

Hey there, I thought this would be a good way to kill two birds with one stone. Firstly I was inspired to create this blog by seeing fellow Moodlers blogs and others on the net also. I really loved seeing was being produced and constantly built on, especially within some schools, and decided to have a go. Secondly, the idea of utilizing this blog to tell you about what some past students/residents are wanting to generate for our children at the Putaruru College, was a great place. It started with Penny Ainsley, who has and continues to successfully achieved at a high standard within her field of hairdressing and life. She lived in Putaruru and went to Tirau Primary School, Putaruru Intermediate and Putaruru High School. Penny has accomplished her dreams of making it to the top in hairdressing with 'Hairdresser of the year' in 2003, and has since opened her own salon in Remuera named "Ainsleys". Penny and her team prepare and enter into competitions such as 'Hairdresser of the Year', 'Salon of the Year' which Ainsley's was a finalist in 2008, 'Peoples Choice' and 'Photographic Award' which Penny won both of these awards in 2008. This was a big year for Penny with also being a finalist in 'Hairdresser of the Year'.

Anyway, Penny and a few of her family and friends are eager to return to Putaruru College and give something to our future generations. Being brought up in Putaruru has certainly had an impact on Penny and her friends, who all went to school here, and there seems to be a spirit about the place. Not spirit as in ghosts but a connectedness that people gain from growing up in the area. They want to share their trials and tribulations, give guidance, encouragement, and where it can apply, work experience to our children.

This is planned to happen one day in August (we haven't confirmed the date but we know it will be this month) where Putaruru College will host a 'Mini Expo' to celebrate the future of our generations and from there continue to promote lives opportunities. Some fields that will be joining Penny with her hairdressing are also in the t.v industry, ICT industry and agriculture etc. We hope to have more people come forward with their abilities/skills who would like to jump on board and save a seat for that day in August where they would like to introduce their profession to a student that could just be the insight and inspiration they need.

And the best thing is you were once sitting there at that school wondering what will become of your life. Who was the person that mentored or inspired you? Wouldn't you want to have the chance to do that or be that to someone in your life?

Enough burbling on now. Even if you just want to post your thoughts about this that would be cool.
